OK so this is going to take some time to evaluate fully, now that I've had a look at the comparison code, I'm reminded as to how difficult it is to follow. Python 2.x comparisons are painfully convoluted to say the least. I think this should still get fixed - but not in 2.5.x since this will change the current behavior and will need testing in a beta period to be sure that it doesn't have unintended side effects. I am still in the process of evaluating this.
