Do you mean the os.system call is hanging (locking up)? If so I can't really say why that would be happening without being able to reproduce it. Though the 2.5 implementation is different, what it's doing is not that radically different from 2.2's It might be helpful to see a stack trace of all the current running threads during the lockup (typing CTRL-\ on POSIX systems will print this out, I believe it's CTRL-BREAK on Windows)
