I tried on a slightly older RedHad version, using Sun JDK 1.6.0_02, and it installed successfully.
You can find the details in the attached RH4-install.log
I suspect that the download of the .jar file was not complete.

Please find below the md5 checksum of the 2.2rc3 installer jar, and report if yours is the same.
[root@localhost ~]# md5sum -b /tmp/jython_installer-2.2rc3.jar

It does look like the file is corrupt. I downloaded one with the correct md5 and it installed correctly. Strange, I used wget to get the files and there was no warnings of download errors..
I tried several of the different mirrors at different locations and received invalid files only from superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net, but only from my current location not an alternate. It is not obvious if this is a mirror problem or a local problem (I hope not since this is corporate type environment).
File that I got yesterday, location 1

That's pretty scary that you got three different md5s from the same location. I just tried superb-west from the 3 locations from where I can currently download things, and I got the correct md5 each time.
